HHS drops ‘model card’ transparency rules for predictive AI tools in certified health records software

A final rule published today removes requirements that certified electronic health record systems show clinicians how predictive decision-support tools were trained, their limits and how they perform across patient groups, plus the related risk-management requirements. HHS’s technology office says it found no evidence the disclosures were used or improved care; it acknowledges a large majority of commenters opposed the change. The rule takes effect 28 December 2026.
