Denmark’s one-year freeze on new and bigger conventional pig farms takes legal effect
From 26 October, Danish municipalities cannot approve new conventional pig operations or expansions of existing ones. The amending order backdates the stop to applications filed from 23 September, when the government announced it, and lapses on 26 October 2027 unless extended. Organic and free-range pig farms are exempt. The farm lobby Landbrug & Fødevarer has warned of compensation lawsuits.
